SUPERIOR — Nonprofits in Douglas County can double their reach and their marketing dollars with the Superior Telegram Nonprofit Boost Marketing Grant Program.
Whether the organization receives a marketing grant from the city or has dollars already earmarked for advertising, the boost program lives up to its name.
“We’re going to match whatever they can bring to the table,” said Megan Keller, advertising director for the Duluth Media Group and publisher of the Cloquet Pine Journal. “And they have until September of 2023 to use these dollars, so they could stretch it out throughout the year.”
The matching grants can be used for print, digital, social media and video marketing with any Forum Communications publication, which includes the Superior Telegram, the Duluth News Tribune, the Cloquet Pine Journal and The Woman Today magazine.
“It was important to us to be able to provide more assistance and to help these nonprofit Superior businesses get messaging out, especially as we’re climbing out of the pandemic,” Keller said.
To qualify for the program, organizations must provide proof of nonprofit status; be located in Superior or Douglas County; and be in active operating status.
The Telegram boost grants are similar to a $1 million Community Commitment Grant program that Forum Communications owner Bill Marcil Jr. rolled out in 2020 throughout the entire company. Locally, 70 Twin Ports area businesses applied for grants and $94,032 in marketing dollars were granted.
One of the businesses that received a grant was Campbell Lumber and Supply Company in Superior. Owner Frank Gerard told Keller the program allowed the company to run twice the number of ads it would have otherwise.
“We were able to get our name in front of the public to promote the fact that we were an ‘essential business’ and ready to help,” Gerard said.
Keller is excited to bring that same opportunity to nonprofits in Superior and Douglas County.
“We want to be there for them, just like they are for our communities,” she said.
The boost program can offer them a bigger reach without having to use their entire marketing budget.
“A lot of nonprofits, they get such a limited amount to use for marketing dollars, if any at all. And so this is a really great opportunity for us to help them share their voice and what their needs are,” Keller said.
