From trunks to trails: Mitchell hosting variety of Halloween events – Mitchell Republic


MITCHELL — Looking for something spooky to do this Halloween? Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening in Mitchell this Halloweekend.

Held Saturday, Oct. 29 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Trunk-or-Treat provides a safe and free trick-or-treat opportunity for kids second grade and under. The event, hosted in the Mitchell Middle School parking lot located on 800 West 10th Avenue in Mitchell, will feature Mitchell Republic’s own professional photographer, Adam Thury, and reporter, Cassie Williams, who have volunteered to take pictures of trick or treaters in their costumes free of charge.

Are you afraid of the dark? — Escape Room

This event will be held Friday, Oct. 28 through Monday, Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Dakota Wesleyan Black Box Theater, attached to the Dakota Discovery Museum.

Teams of one to five people work in total darkness to complete the tasks before the ten minute mark is up, and the fastest group wins a prize. Admission is $5 per person.

Main Street Trick-Or-Treat

Mitchell Main Street and Beyond will be hosting a free trick-or-treating event for all the little ghosts and goblins of Mitchell on Saturday, Oct. 29. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., parents are encouraged to bring their trick or treaters downtown and visit participating business for a special Halloween treat.

Mitchell Main Street and Beyond encourages participating individuals to look for the special flyer in downtown businesses windows.

Hosted by Helping With Horsepower, this event features participating groups and businesses that will be handing out candy along the “Phobia Haunted Trail”.

The two-hour event will be held Sunday, Oct. 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Reclamation Ranch, located at 40787 259th Street in Mitchell.

Phobia — A Haunted Trail

This event, also hosted by Helping With Horsepower, is a three day event that features a haunted trail. There is a fee of $15 per person.

The trail will be open starting Friday, Oct. 28, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will be open during the same hours for Saturday and Sunday as well. It is also located at the Reclamation Ranch.

Peary Scary Halloween Party

Coborn’s will be hosting a Halloween costume party on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. where there will be free candy and pears to decorate with stickers. They’ve also added that the first 30 kids to arrive will receive a Moobell Halloween bag.

Halloween Party at James Valley Community Center

The James Valley Community Center will be hosting a Halloween Costume Parade and Party on Monday, Oct. 31. The fun begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Center, located on 300 West First Avenue in Mitchell.
